Medieval tower of Sommocolonia

The walls of Sommocolonia encircled the entire castle and, until World War II, you could still make out the remains of the gate

Over the centuries all the walls gradually fell down or were pulled down. The last part still visible is the so-called 'Rocca', the remains of a tower of the inner circle of the walls of Sommocolonia.

During the offensive over Christmas 1944, the village was severely damaged because of the bombings and the tower was partially destroyed as can still be seen. There is plaque affixed to one side in memory of this tragic event.
