Sinkhole Pozzale

The Martani mountains, of calcareous nature, are characterized by superficial karst phenomena that have given rise to numerous sinkholes, which have inspired numerous stories and legends. These karst formations have a didactic morphology and were created thanks to the action of rainwater that slowly dissolved the limestone of the rocks: funnel-shaped (such as the Tifene) or chalice-shaped (such as that of Corva di Mezzanelli), or in the shape of a well  (such as that of Pozzale).
